SAT Score and Studying?

So i just got my PSAT back and I am planning to take the SAT this spring, twice if needed. I got a score of 163 or aprox. 1630/2400 on the real SAT according to the little report thing. I was wondering what's an average score and what is a good score for the new SAT? Any study tips? Im using Kaplans study book right now. Should i get College Boards book? are they basicly the same?
